Advanced Drone Pilot Training Course

Total program: 60 hours (28 hours of online study + 32 hours of in-person flight instruction) 

Overview

​

This exciting course comprises two important elements of study: 28 hours of online material to prepare you to take the Transport Canada Advanced Drone Pilot exam, and 32 hours of in-person flight training over the course of one week to prepare you for a flight review that, if passed, will make you a Certified Advanced Drone Pilot.

(**Please note that exams and certificates are issued by Transport Canada, with payment directly payable to them - this amounts to about $35)

 

Course Content

​

28-hour online Ground School covering the following areas as required by the Transport Canada TP15263E(1):

 

a. Air Law, Air Traffic Rules and Procedures;
b. RPAS airframes, power plants, propulsion and systems;
c. Human Factors;
d. Meteorology;
e. Navigation;
f. Flight Operations;
g. Theory of Flight; and,
h. Radiotelephony.

 

** Please note that the ground school is preparation for the Advanced Drone Pilot exam, which must be taken and passed prior to the in-person flight training.

This is a welcome to the course that will provide you a brief introduction to drones and the drone industry and outline what will be covered in each section. It will also provide an introduction to some basic terms and explore the scope of the material you can expect.

Instructor and Flight Reviewer Course

$1,500 + tax

Overview

The VEdTS Instructor and Flight Reviewers Course is designed to take an experienced drone pilot with a Transport Canada Advanced RPAS Pilot Licence and train them to meet Transport Canada’s expectations and Standards for Drone Instruction and conducting Flight Reviews. The total duration of the course is six (6) days.

Course prerequisites

Candidates who wish to complete the Drone Instructor Pilot and Drone Flight Reviewer Training must meet the following prerequisites:

 

1. A valid Pilot certificate – small remotely piloted aircraft (VLOS) endorsed for advanced operations

2. Be a minimum of 18 years of age

3. Must have a minimum of 6 months experience as per CAR 901.83 (c)

4. Must have successfully completed the Remotely Piloted Aircraft System-Flight Reviewer (RPASFR) exam

5. Must be trained to TP 15263E

6. Must read, understand and comply with TP 15395E

7. Must be directly affiliated with a TP 15263E Self-Declared RPAS Training provider

8. The candidate must have no enforcement action against them, past or pending

9. Every 2 years, to maintain Reviewer role, must complete recency requirements as per CAR 901.65

10. A good record with respect to aviation Course duration – Two days

• Review of the TP 15263E

• Overview of Classroom and flight training instructional technique.

• Review of Essential and Desirable equipment to have as an instructor.

• Field Flight Training Demonstration.

• At the end of the instructor course, you will receive a VEdTS Drone Instructor Pilot Certificate

• Review of the TP15395E Flight Reviewers Guide.

• Field Flight Review Demonstration.

• Once you have completed Flight Review Training you will be offered the opportunity to monitor a Flight Review by a qualified Flight Reviewer. Then you will conduct a Flight Review under supervision. Once completed, the Flight Reviewer will forward your information to Transport Canada so you can then apply for your Transport Canada Flight Reviewer Certificate

 

1. Note – in accordance with Transport Canada regulations a drone instructor and/or Drone Flight Reviewer must be directly affiliated with a TP 15263E SelfDeclared RPAS Training provider in order to exercise the privileges of Drone Instructor or Flight Reviewer.

Drone Industrial Applications Training Program (DIATP)

Price: $23,809.50+ GST

Total program: 240 hours or 12 - 15 weeks of study

Overview

​

The Drone Pilot Industrial Applications Course is designed to provide drone pilots with the advanced drone operator knowledge, skills, and tools to work in the Drone Industry.  The course has 20 modules (18 online modules and 2 in-person training modules) that cover photography, photogrammetry, videography, thermography, and laser radar (LiDAR) as well as computer skills, data processing and business development skills.  Each module ends with a 60-minute open book exam that requires a minimum of an 80% pass mark to move onto the next module.  The online portion of the course culminates with a 120 minute open book exam requiring an 80% pass covering all sections of the course. This is in line with Transport Canada examination procedures.  The course also includes the DJI Matrice 30 T (DJI M30T) which is a state-of-the-Art commercial Enterprise drone with photo, video, and thermal capabilities.  The students will train on both the DJI M30T as well as the DJI Matrice 300 with the L2 Lidar camera and process data using state of the art, industry standard large data processing software.  The flight portion of the course is a practical application of the skills learned in the online school using the DJI M30T and DJI Matrice 350 with the L2 Lidar camera.

The course should be completed in no more than 15 weeks subject to the scheduling of the flight training portion, culminating with the presentation of 10 certificates and a course critique.  ​

Candidates interested in registering for the Drone Pilot Industrial Applications Course must have a valid and current Transport Canada Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate and a minimum of 20 hours of drone pilot flying time.
