Social Insurance Number and T2202

As part of the course registration process, VEdTS may collect your Social Insurance Number (SIN).

Your SIN is collected specifically for the preparation and filing of the T2202 Tuition and Enrolment Certificate with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). The T2202 reports eligible tuition fees and enrolment information and may be used by students when claiming eligible tuition amounts on their Canadian income tax return.

VEdTS will only use your SIN for the preparation, administration and filing of required tax and educational documentation, unless another use is required or permitted by law.

Because a SIN is sensitive personal information, access is limited to authorized personnel and service providers who require the information for this purpose. Your SIN will not be used for marketing purposes.

Veterans Affairs Canada Funding

Many VEdTS students choose to seek funding through Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC).

VEdTS may provide students with invoices, course information and other documentation for use as part of their VAC application.

Unless specifically authorized by you, or otherwise required or permitted by law, VEdTS does not disclose your personal information directly to VAC simply because you have advised us that you intend to apply for funding.

Students remain responsible for the accuracy and submission of their own funding applications.

Consent

Where required, VEdTS obtains consent before collecting, using or disclosing personal information. Consent may be express or implied depending on the information being collected and the circumstances.

You may withdraw consent to certain uses of your personal information by contacting us, subject to legal, regulatory or contractual requirements. Withdrawal of consent may affect our ability to provide a service where that information is necessary to deliver it.

Some technology and service providers used by VEdTS may store or process information outside Canada.

Where information is processed in another jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to government or regulatory authorities in accordance with applicable law.

VEdTS takes reasonable steps when selecting service providers that handle personal information on our behalf.

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the website, understand how visitors use it and improve the user experience.

This may include information such as your IP address, browser or device type, pages visited, approximate location based on your IP address, and the date and time of your visit.

You can generally control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling certain cookies may affect website functionality.

We may contact you regarding your enquiry, registration, course, invoice or services.

We may also send information about upcoming VEdTS courses or services where you have provided consent or where permitted under Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

These measures may include:

  • Limiting access to authorized personnel

  • Password and account controls

  • Secure third-party systems
